How many of you memorized this Psalm as a child? It still brings me comfort.
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.” Psalm 23: 1-6 (KJV).

Did you know that under NYC's new mayor, Zohran Mamdani—the city's first Muslim leader—the 5x daily Adhan (Muslim call to prayer) is now authorized to echo through the streets of New York? This expands on previous policies, allowing broadcasts every day, from dawn to night.
What started as Friday-only under Adams is now a full daily ritual, voted in by the majority of New Yorkers who backed this administration.
But here's a thought: If public expressions of faith are the new norm in one of America's most diverse cities, why not balance the scales? I challenge Christians and Jews—especially in areas where Islamic influence is strong—to organize our own daily public prayer vigils. Let's unite in prayer to the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—the same God Christians know as Jesus Christ. Push back against division and reclaim the light in our shared spaces.
